Photography In Brighton

Useful things to note down...

The 3 4 main camera/photography shops currently under investigation are (Todo: add links to maps):

  • Jessops (Queen's Road)
  • Snappy Snaps (North Street)
  • Clocktower Cameras (Just off Queen's Road by the Earth and Stars pub)
  • Monolab (bottom of St James Street)

I haven't been into Boots yet to see how their services stand up.

  • For buying 120 film, I think only Jessops can help.

  • For developing 120 medium format film, Snappy Snaps on North Street are the fastest - 1hr, 24hr or 3 day, IIRC. Jessops and Clocktower both send theirs off, which can take 1-2 weeks. Snappy Snaps also put medium format onto CD, which Jessops don't.

  • N.B. For developing B&W 120 film, Snappy Snaps send it off to Monolab, so might be worth cutting out the middle man.

  • For cross-processing, Jessops seem very good - the guy that works there is into it and is quite knowledgable about which film to use, etc. X-Pro costs an extra 99p. Not sure if anywhere else does this - I would assume so, but no idea as to how much expertise they have in it. Would be worth finding out.

  • Boots do neither 120 film nor cross-processing.

  • I put some old (1960s?) Kodak B&W Verichrom Pan 120 film into Monolab, but it didn't come out too well. However, I'm pretty sure this was a result of bad photography in the first place, rather than Monolab's processing.
