Complexity Vs Judgement

References needed, but this covers the idea that progress leads to increasing complexity, which demands greater bureaucratic rigour et al, and hence less subjective judgement on the part of the individual. This is amplified through greater networking, which increases the "fight" for equality and standardisation. The emergent system, in other words, replaces what was previously the role of the single person.
