Fasting The Heart

(Up to: Taoism )

According to Alan Watts... Not the heart, but the heart-mind. The psychic centre.

In English, "heartless" means unfeeling, and "mindless" means an idiot.

But in Chinese, "heartless" is a good thing - it means a heart that doesn't get in the way. It is empty like a pot, and therefore useful. It is clear like a lens, and therefore unseen.

"Operate in the world as if you were absent."

This reminds me a little of the unseen powerful, the people with all the money and power that keep themselves carefully out of the limelght. Attention can be a curse.
