The Necessity of Understanding

(Up to: Philosophy )

...or The Understanding of Necessity maybe.

Death is a necessity in understanding what we are - without death we only have half of the puzzle. But is understanding what we are necessary to understand who we are? Or is the understanding lent to us through consciousness self-contained, disparate from the material that makes us? Is it only necessary to understand who we are?

A side note. Death makes us who we are, though. Without it, we are not us.
