Currently, I walk to work. I like this aspect of my commute - it gives me exercise, and gives me time to think to myself about what the world is about. Often, I bump into people that I know, and sometimes I even see things that interest, intrigue, or amuse me.

Things I have seen on while walking about

• A woman being chased by a herd of pigeons.
  This was odd. Usually, when an old person (and they do tend to be old. And a person.) throws bread out on a pavement for the local ragbirds to come and gobble up, there is a melee of feathers and wings (weathers and fings?) while the pensioner retreats to a safe place, preferably with a nice cup of tea.
  Today, perhaps there wasn't enough bread, or perhaps it wasn't bread but cocaine (which pigeons probably enjoy too), but as the woman walked away from the rabble, the pigeoned mass followed her along, like a swarm of bees wondering if they should attack a really big bear that's just stolen their honey but is quite capable of squashing them all. This continued while I watched, although she didn't seem to be perturbed by the experience much.
  Oddly, the seagulls and the wood pigeon that were there didn't follow suit. They seem to have principles.

• An aging pissman.
  I like this guy. He has the time and inclination to simply sit on a small wall that surrounds one of the many trees along a particular stretch of pavement, and drink from a badly-coloured can that looks very cheap. I think he has a plastic bag with him too, which probably contains the rest of the six-pack. Other than that, he looks quite normal (more normal than the rest of us).
  I always wonder if he's on his way to somewhere - he seems to have a particular route, and he's always in the same spot. But I never see him move. Is he just somebody that likes a quick glug in the morning, on his way to work? And if so, what does he do?
  It's been quite cold recently, so he's been wearing a coat, although I've not seen him for the last week or so. I do hope he's ok.
