Maybe this is a better way to think about how reality works, rather than the backwards approach taken by many advocates of |!UniversalDesign|.

A language is a structured, formalised (or formalisable) system to allow communication to take place, but the development of a language itself is a process of evolution, and the structure of the language can be considered to be completely arbitrary. Thus, we can see that a system may look as though it has been designed, but in actual fact our perspective of it influences our definition of "design".
